This spoken word piece was written towards the end of me preparing for my album. I was inspired by the bible scripture John 1:5 " The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." I resonated with this scripture because I've overcome so much pain in my life. I will not be consumed by darkness, because the light of Jesus will shine through me. This piece that I wrote is telling my story through a different viewpoint. This song was not only the first song I've ever written, but I wrote it while I was incarcerated inside CCA in Davidson County (now DCSO), I was facing up to 30 years in prison, I was scared, grieving, and away from my family.
